Task 4: Identification of Critical "Hotspot" Areas

The directive of this task is to employ root cause analysis to identify environmental ‘hotspots’ (e.g., ecosystems damaged or threatened by pollution or other stressors) in Saudi territorial waters of the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf. The principal task objectives are to:

  1. Develop a holistic approach to identify and assess the main sources of pollution, or other environmental stress, in the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf through hotspot analysis.
  2. Identify and map the critical hotspots and detail the criteria used in selecting each area.
  3. Work with the Task 6 (field surveillance) team and project management to design a survey of environmental properties in the most critically ranked hotspots.

A final list and ranking of hotspots, in tabular and graphical form, with a detailed description of each hotspot will be generated.
