Overview

  • Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 was initiated as a farsighted approach for economic growth and development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As part of Vision 2030 and under the leadership of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA), the National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC) is tasked with implementation of the Marine and Coastal Environment Protection Initiative.
  • The project will be a collaboration between NCEC and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST).
  • The overarching objective will be to prepare a national Status Quo Assessment that will set priorities for the Kingdom’s coastal environment.
  • The work toward this goal will entail scaling the relative impact of coastal pollution sources and other causes of environmental degradation, identifying preventive and remedial actions, and devising detailed monitoring strategies.

Research Approach

In carrying out this work, the project team assembled by KAUST will devise the necessary plans and protocol, and supply the needed personnel, materials and all other required items. Throughout the project, the team will maintain close communication with NCEC to ensure that the developing strategies and work progress meet the needs of NCEC.
