  • The Saudi Arabian coast is 2,640 km in length with approximately 30% of the nation’s population of 32.2 Million (9.7M people) living within 100 km of the coast.
  • The Red Sea and Arabian Gulf are internationally recognized for the variety and value of their coastal and marine environments in addition to their strategic, economic, and social value to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and surrounding nations.
  • NCEC aims to define the baseline environmental conditions, characterize qualitatively and quantitatively existing and future pressures on the Coastal Zone and ultimately implement a nationwide integrated monitoring system and take further actions to protect and restore existing environmental assets in the Coastal Zone.
